School superintendent
to leave by end of year
Catholic school Superintendent Nicholas M. Wolsonovich will leave by June.
Wolsonovich, who has served as superintendent since 2001, said Sept. 24 that he decided to leave because the time was right for him and for the archdiocese.
The Office of Catholic Schools this year began full implementation of the Genesis plan for Catholic schools.
Among the elements of the plan is the creation of an archdiocesan board of Catholic schools and a provision for Catholic schools to have lay boards responsible for some areas of governance.
Those areas will be among the main challenges facing the Catholic schools in the future, said Wolsonvich.
“The educational program as reflected in Genesis is in place,” he said. “They just need to keep moving it forward. The issues in the vitality section need strong leadership.”
In a news release, Cardinal George thanked Wolsonovich for his service.
“We greatly appreciate Dr. Wolsonovich’s strengthening of the educational mission of the archdiocese these past seven years,” the cardinal wrote. “His devotion to the administrators, faculty and staff at our Catholic schools has helped instill a vigorous sense of hope in the future of Catholic education for our children in Cook and Lake counties.”
Wolsonovivh, 63, and his wife have seven grandchildren with two more expected by the end of the year.
