Cardinal will ordain two Canons Regular of St. John Cantius

In ceremonies May 29 at 7:30 p.m. at St. John Cantius Church, 825 N. Carpenter St., Cardinal George will ordain two professed members of the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius as priests for the Archdiocese of Chicago.

The Canons Regular of St. John Cantius is a Catholic religious community of priests and brothers founded in the Archdiocese of Chicago in 1998. Members devote themselves in parish ministry to a restoration of the sacred in liturgy, art, music and church history.

This Mass of ordination on May 29 will be offered in Latin.

One of the men being ordained in the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius is from Waukegan and the other from Tuscaloosa, Ala. Both men completed their seminary training at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Conn., following professional careers and both are over 40 years of age.

Rev. Bro. Bartholomew Juncer, S.J.C., 50, was born in Waukegan, the son of John V. and Florence M. (nee Pudlo) Juncer. He attended St. Bartholomew Parish in Waukegan and graduated from St. Bartholomew School and Quigley Seminary North. He earned a bachelor’s in theology, a bachelor’s in communication arts and a master’s in religious education from Loyola University in Chicago, and a master’s in school administration from De Paul University. Juncer will celebrate his first Mass at St. John Cantius Parish June 1 at 12:30 p.m. He will continue to serve in that parish after his ordination.

Rev. Br. Anthony Rice, S.J.C., 45, was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the son of James (deceased) and Margaret Jimenez Rice. He attended Holy Spirit Parish in Tuscaloosa and graduated from Holy Spirit Grade School and Tuscaloosa High School. He earned a bachelor’s in secondary education/history and a master’s in student personnel from the University of Alabama. Rice will celebrate his first Mass on June 1 at St. John Cantius Parish. He will be assigned to St. Peter Church in Volo after his ordination.
