Holy Name Cathedral welcomed on Oct. 15 a first-class relic and a bronze statue of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, identified on the front of the worship guide as “Chicago’s saint.”
Jubilee year for Mother Cabrini kicks off at national shrine
The jubilee year to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the canonization of Mother Cabrini kicked off with a Mass on Nov. 13 and the opening of the holy doors at the National Shrine to St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, 2520 N. Lakeview Ave.
The freedom of being sent
On Friday, Nov. 13, the Catholic community in Chicagoland gathered to ordain Fathers Kevin Birmingham, Jeffrey Grob and Robert Lombardo, CFR, as our newest auxiliary bishops. As this ceremony took place on the feast of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, I took the opportunity to draw attention to some core values and virtues found in the Word of God, proclaimed for that day, which shaped her life, and should shape all Christian lives, and especially those of ecclesial leaders.
Author shares family's friendship with Mother Cabrini
Celeste Raspanti, a volunteer archivist at the Cathedral of St. Paul, remembers stories her mother told about their family forging a friendship at the dinner table with St. Frances Xavier Cabrini as they helped her minister to the poor in Chicago.
