Diversity among seniors grows with population
Once upon a time, not so very long ago, agencies providing social services to senior citizens had a pretty good idea of who they were serving: older adults in their 70s and 80s, who needed help with basic activities like shopping, cooking and transportation. Most were members of fairly homogeneous communities, and spoke and understood English.
Treasuring our seniors
From caring for pregnant women and infants to nursing care for those at the twilight of life, Catholic Charities preserves and protects the sanctity and dignity of human life at every stage of the life cycle. To be sure, compassionate care of seniors has been a vital part of our mission since our founding more than 100 years ago.
Blessed by our seniors
Each year in June, Catholic Charities looks forward to honoring older adults at our Senior Unity Mass. This year’s 46th annual event, which takes place June 13 at the historic St. Casimir Motherhouse, will include singing from Catholic Charities’ talented staff choir, an information fair on senior services, opportunities to socialize with old and new friends and a delicious hot lunch.
‘March for Meals’
Each year in March, we celebrate “March for Meals” to honor the Meals on Wheels program and the seniors it serves. “March for Meals” gives us a great opportunity to explain just how vital this program is in the community, often being the critical difference between enabling seniors to age in place at home and having to move to a nursing facility for temporary or long-term care.
