St. John Cantius turns steps into art for Corpus Christi
When European Catholics celebrate Corpus Christi, they often make carpets in the street out of flowers or sand to honor Christ in the Eucharist. In that spirit, St. John Cantius Parish, 825. N. Carpenter St., has created eucharistic images on its front steps for the solemnity and the procession that follows Mass for the past 10 years.
‘Broken Mary’ focus of peace procession
On the evening of May 31, the feast of the Visitation of Mary, over 1,500 people walked out of St. John Cantius Church at Chicago and Ogden Avenues and processed — holding candles and reciting the rosary — to the historic Water Tower to pray for peace in the city.
Processions mark Fatima anniversary
It was a sight to see: More than 1,500 people processing west on Chicago Avenue as the sun set on May 13 praying the rosary, singing and carrying candles. They made their way from St. John Cantius Church, 825 N. Carpenter St., to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 1351 W. Evergreen Ave., in honor of the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima and to pray for peace. Karen Callaway/Chicago Catholic
